Be on Time!!!
When you sign up to Ump a game, assure that you arrive ½ hour before game time. If you cannot make your scheduled game, you MUST contact the Chief Umpire so back up coverage can be set up.

Sell Your Calls!
Continue to be emphatic verbally and physically in all of your calls - strike, ball, out, safe, foul ball, time out, etc. Let's look and sound like umpires, and inspire confidence in our calls.
Behind the Plate
Make sure you get into the proper "ready" position behind the plate - low enough and wide enough so you can see the ball pass through all portions of the plate. Get your chin to the top of the catcher's head. Keep your head steady, and track the ball into the catcher's mitt with your eyes.
Wear your chest protectors inside your umpire's shirt. Be sure to wear your umpire's hat. You must wear a cup when behind the plate. Wear long, dark pants - no shorts or excessively baggy pants.
In the field
The base umpire's "B" position is behind the second baseman and on the edge of the outfield.
The first base umpire's "A" position is slightly in foul territory, so you can get a good angle in determining whether a ball is hit fair or foul. The base umpire?s "B" position is behind the second baseman and near or on the edge of the outfield. Remember that angle is more important than distance. Also, timing is important - don?t rush your calls.
